Batgirl will follow the titular character and also bring back Michael Keaton’s Batman following his heavily expected appearance in the upcoming The Flash film. However, Batman’s inclusion in both films raises questions since The Flash will now come out much later than Batgirl following the former’s recent release date change.

Batgirl directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah spoke to Insider, dropping some interesting information about their upcoming DC comic adaptation .“We don’t know when ‘Batgirl’ is coming out,” El Arbi stated. “No one told us nothing about tweaks, just to carry on.” This is obviously slightly alarming. While it’s good that they’ll be allowed to continue production, it’s concerning that there’s no release date in sight, suggesting Warner Bros. has not made a final decision about whether Batgirl will be released on HBO Max or exclusively in theatres.
DC’s timeline is an interesting one. Because Warner Bros. has a history of confirming DC films only to cancel them or dramatically shift the release date, it’s clear that they’re doing their best to stay afloat while adapting to what’s being thrown at them. Right now, DC Films is looking for a new studio head because they need an overall leader to keep the releases on track.
Right now, Warner Bros. is probably fine because the DC films don’t really have an effect on each other. The Flash being delayed doesn’t affect anything about Batgirl despite the two films sharing characters. Even for their other films, nothing really seems to connect. The Batman, Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, and Batgirl don’t have any big blatant connections, unlike the connected Marvel Cinematic Universe. This serves as a helpful aspect while DC figures out how to handle the rest of their films.
Everybody is trying to give ideas to the popular DC company. Many people are also making their own theories as to what’s transpiring as if all the behind-the-scenes drama is pre-planned. It would serve DC well if they let Zack Snyder finish his universe, bring back the actors who left and take it one film at a time as they slowly introduce smaller characters.
Batgirl is currently expected to be released on HBO Max in 2022.
