According to a new blog post by James Windeler, Lead Writer of episode one of Batman: The Enemy Within, John Doe will be a returning character from the original Telltale title. For those who didn’t play the first installment of the Batman series, Doe is a sort of “Proto-Joker,” a man on the brink of madness who has helped Bruce in the past and now has reason to believe that his new friend owes him a favor.

The end result of John Doe’s obsession with Bruce Wayne is a Joker that has been influenced by the many choices that the player has made throughout the game’s story. As such, many players will end up with a different version of the classic Batman villain which is sure to add a fair amount of replayability to the game.

Other characters that will play a part in Batman: The Enemy Within include a more blood-hungry Riddler, as well as other long-standing personalities such as Jim Gordon and Amanda Waller, who will interact with the player throughout the story. If gamers haven’t played the first part of Telltale’s experience for the Dark Knight, they will have the option of emulating the decisions they would have made before part two begins.

Batman: The Enemy Within Part One releases on August 8th for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with Android and iOS devices receiving support later this year.
