According to the figures, Battlefield 1’s open beta drew in just about 13.2 million users during its run from August 30 to September 8. Bearing that in mind, when compared with Star Wars Battlefront’s reported player count of more than 9 million, it’s easy to see that the World War I-themed title’s test has effectively topped the shooter based on George Lucas’ intergalactic film franchise.
In addition to the announcement of Battlefield 1’s open trial hosting more players than Star Wars Battlefront’s, Electronic Arts also put out an infographic that boasts some huge data pertaining to the forthcoming game’s beta achievements. For example, as seen in the image below, there were 62.2 million horseback kills, and 23.8 million people who were offed by cars. Furthermore, Assault was the most popular of the multiplayer classes with 30 percent of players picking it, followed by Scout at 28 percent.
With Battlefield 1’s beta out of the way, the game’s senior producer Aleks Grondal went on to thank fans for participating and for the feedback given for the test. He declared that he and the team at DICE are now analyzing all of the data that’s out there, and will use it to the tweak the game if necessary. For instance, Grondal mentioned that the Light Tank performed “a little too well,” which implies the developer could reduce its power upon Battlefield 1’s official launch.
While the data set itself for Battlefield 1’s beta is indeed staggering, perhaps the most impressive aspect of it attracting such an astronomically large size of players is that it did so after its servers dealt with a crippling DDoS attack shortly after the test’s launch. Although some fans still encountered connectivity issues after the outage, it’s obvious that the beta went on to success, as evidenced by the aforementioned massive figures. So, taking all of this into consideration, it will be interesting to see how Battlefield 1 shapes up against its competition in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare once both shooters finally release as we approach the holiday season.
Battlefield 1 is set to release on October 21, 2016 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
